Anybody ever had a newer Tacoma bed apart or put a bedside on one? I'm doing a estimate for putting a bed floor (plastic, or fiber) in one and wondered if it takes any special tools. It was hit in the rear and buckled/cracked the floor. I wish I had one of the computer estimating programs.

The bed floor is some type of composite? I dont have a clue as to how long the labor guide calls for but if you are replacing it the whole floor it shouldnt be to hard to get out. Since its busted already you could just start ripping it out. Around the outside where it attaches to the bed sides will be the worst part, I bet its bolted and glued with panel adhesive. Do you have a panel splitting tool that looks like a long flat scraper? Those come in real handy for stuff like that. Is it painted or does it have like a bedliner texture to it?

Sorry I cant give you the hours so you can quote it.

Yes, some kind of plastic or something. It has a bedliner texture and is not painted, but is black. I thought they were made out of plastic, but where it is cracked you can see hairs like fiberglass. It pretty thick, and tough, but also a little bit flexible, so it would be hard to tear out. The bed floor and inner bedsides are all one piece. It appears to be bolted together at the back inside the gate jamb. I don't think that I have that tool.

If its just bolted and you can just take it out and replace it with a new one, which will probrably come coated already it should only take a couple hours.

I bet that floor peice is pricey too!

I had to change the b pillar band on a Ram Air T/A once because the factory didnt seal the back and the fiberglass absorbed the panel adhesive. Over time it was seeping some oily crap from under the paint. I thought it would be a real quicky deal.. Wrong. It was a nightmare to get it off. I ended up having to break it off in little peices , which wasnt easy either, just so I could get underneath it to pry it loose. Took all day to get it off and cleaned and the new one bonded back on.
