Any tranny builders in the club?

Postby outlawc on Tue May 26, 2009 9:55 am

The burb I just bought will need the trans rebuilt before I put it in the blazer. I noticed it was slipping alittle when I bought it and found why yesterday. The tv cable end had broken off and I dont know how long its been running like. I hooked it back up temporarily and it shifts and drives perfect now when its warmed up but still slipping when its cold.

I have built them myself and they worked good but I dont have the right tools to do it and I would rather put the money into a club members hands for a rebuild than someone else.

Keith, I can do 350 and 400 turbo's all day long and I have the tools. I have never had a lot of luck with 700's. I built one for Kevin but the planetary unlatched about a year after I did it. I did one for my nephew and never could get it right, I think it was something in the valve body.

The last one I did I had problems with it too and it was the valve body. I had used the red shop rags to sit it on when I took it out and wiped it with the shop rag too. A neighbor that built transmissions told me what I did wrong and that a peice of fuzz was probrable making the valve stick. I took it out and apart again, cleaned it and it worked perfect then. I just remember having to fight it to get it apart and back together without the right tools and dont really trust myself to build one thats dependable

You want to build this one? I trust you and you know what your doing! :2thumbs Like I said, I would rather pay a member here so it can go back into someones project or truck.

Keith,

I'd love to but I don't know when I'll be able to. The next few hitch's are full, they have me going to a lot of schools. I won't have a full time off the rest of the year. I am cramming CTC in and next time off I'm rebuilding Kevin's motor. We'll see how it goes in a few months.

One thing though if it's running now it will probably come out OK as far as the valve body goes. One thing to think about is if you buy the tools instead of paying someone you'll be money ahead and still get to keep the tools for next time. You can pick up all the tools for about $100.00 or so. Just a thought.

I am not in a huge rush. I did have a freind of mine that runs his own shop offer to help and lend me whatever tools I needed since I helped him with some paintwork on his SG/SC Corvette tonight.
