Brake issues

Postby Chevy_Man on Wed Jul 22, 2009 8:45 am

Hey This is not on a old truck but on my 03 chevy........I have a brake that is dragging on the pass rear...it is disc brakes...the rotor and pads were just changed on the rear but its still dragging....Any ideas where to look to see what prblem is??????? I was going to look at the adjustment of the park brake or bleed that side again...

Is it getting hot, or just making a dragging noise? I think the parking brake is seperate on that truck, and is a brake shoe band inside the "drum" of the disc, if that makes any sense. I know that the inside RR pad is common to wear out first on those trucks, and GM has a recall on it, but the recall simply adds a mudflap according to my computer. If the pads are dragging and getting hot, I'd suspect a bad caliper or brake hose, but if it's just a dragging noise, check the parking brake pad, it may be worn out.

The pads are dragging on that one side only....its not the park brake...it has plenty of slack and loosens back up once released.....

I'd say a bad brake caliper.

My 02 was doing the same thing as yours. I got it to clear for a while, then it would start back up again. I replaced the caliper and no more problem.
