Ernie & Sandi's 69 Camaro build

Postby HuggerCST on Tue Nov 03, 2009 9:43 pm

Just thought I would post some pics of my sister & brother in law's car that they are building. It's a 1969 Camaro that they bought a couple of years ago. It looks pretty good in the photo, but wasn't as good as it looked. It needs a right quarter panel, rear panel, rear deck panel, 2 fenders, floor patches, and door patches. The cowl hood is new.

This is the car being torn down at a local shop. Right now, the hull is in Jackson, Miss. getting acid dipped.

Ernie is doing the mechanicals himself at home. The engine is a 600hp 496, and the trans is a M-21 muncie 4 speed.

It has a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and I believe it has GM "781" heads. The distributor and plug wires are some Nascar leftovers. (Ernie works at Joe Gibbs racing)

Do you recognize that shifter Kevin? Yeah, Ernie talked me out of it, but he had been looking for that exact shifter, so he's pretty proud of it.

No, this isn't their car, but this is pretty much what they are shooting for. It's a Yenko clone. Ernie's original choice was dark green, almost black, which was a original color, but I think Sandi talked him into red.

That is going to be a beautiful car Wynne! I can tell just looking at the subframe/engine/trans that he is extremely detail oriented. I cant wait to see more of it come to life! :2thumbs

He is, Keith, and I think they already have more money in the car than I have in my truck!

That thing will be perfect knowing Ernie. It's looking great. When you get a chance Wynne ask him what all was done to the motor, what crank/ piston rod combo, cam etc. and what he did to the heads. I suspect he's running stock or roller tip rockers since he has the stock valve covers and oh yeah what carb? I'm nosey. I'm thinking real hard about building something along those lines and some tips would help. Man that car is going to be awesome, Ernie never does anything halfway.

Hey Wynne, It's still in the family and that's all that matters!!!!!!!!!! I'm really glad that Ernie ended up with the shifter (Not that I would have minded you ending up with the shifter (You know what I mean!)
The car is going to look awesome! I know that Ernie and Sandi will be really proud of it when it's done! (They'll just have to show it off to all of us when it's done! :2thumbs
