Believe or not, I still think I can make it by the 3rd. I haven't gotten a lot done lately that is worth showing. I got my big sway bar on, finished up most of the interior, started fixing the bad spots in the paint, and just finished up a few small things here and there. Hopefully I can get the paint done this weekend and get started on the exhaust.

I gained a little bit of worthless knowledge about the front end while trying to get the alignment within a reasonable range. I had too much camber even without any shims, so I decided to pull out the 1/4" thick spacers behind the shims. It turned out that the inside of these shims is cupped, so I couldn't take them out. I thought that I'd have to get them cut down by a machine shop, but while looking at one my '72 parts trucks I noticed that those spacers were only 1/8" thick. It was the same on all of my '71 & '72 parts trucks. I pulled a set off, installed them on the '70, perfect fit. I even had to add a shim. :thup

I have to admit that I've never seen anyone take as much of a truck apart while they are attempting to get it assembled...you really are a PERFECTIONIST aren't you?!?!? I wish I had that quality and the talent to make it work, I will call you late this week to see when you will need my help. I love working on them, and want to see yours together!

It's been giving me fits Chris, but I can't blame anybody but myself, so I'll keep fighting it. On the fender, I'm not sure what happened, but it started bubbling up like blisters. I had to go to the metal to sand them out, but there was no rust under it, so I'm not sure, but for whatever reason it didn't stick. If I had to guess it was probably the cheap (Nason) wax and grease remover. It was the first time I ever used that brand, and it has given me trouble several times. The door had some waves in the center that I thought wouldn't show, but did. They bugged me so I decided to sand them out and repaint. It also had a small speck of rust under the paint at the top. I've got some small spots of rust showing up in the bed too, but I'll worry about them later so I can get it going and make CTC. I think what happened there is I let it sit too long in my shop before applying epoxy. (I did the bodywork on the bare metal) I guess it started to rust and I missed it. It's very dissapointing, but nothing that can't be fixed. At least I learned from it.

I can understand your disappointment with the paint . But like you said, it's nothing that can't be fixed. You've done an awesome job with the truck so far, this is just another problem to get worked out. And as you said.. "lesson learned".. Amen to that brother !!! Keith may chime in here and add to it, but i about fell on the floor when he showed me the surface rust that was under my epoxy. Thankfully, it was only in a few areas. I had left some areas unprimed while i worked on them. Heck, after a week, it still looked the same..bright, shiny metal. So, naturally i hit it with some w&g remover then epoxy. Even if you cant see it with the naked eye, you can be darn sure it's there !

Yep, same thing with mine I guess. The thing that gets me about it is I used nothing but 2k filler primer for years on bare metal spots, but I wanted this one to last and be right, so I stripped it and used epoxy, lol. Oh well.

First off, you cant wiggle out the "perfectionist" title bro, you is one! Thats one thing I have noticed about the club members. It seems we are all picky, thats good though. The only thing that can come of a club full of picky builders is the occasional curse word and a sparkling show truck!

Yeah, when air touches bare metal the process starts so the faster the epoxy goes on, the better chance you have. When I strip large areas, the epoxy goes on as soon as I am done. If there are some spots that I want to take back down to metal, I strip the small areas I need, finish the bodywork and seal again. If you leave it bare for awhile it may look good, but before you apply epoxy, go over the bare areas real quick with one of the stripping disc to ensure there is nothing there.

You are doing a beautiful, top notch job Wynne. I wish I was closer, I would be over there helping you out too.

Thanks Keith. I have been occused of being picky before, lol (my Dad call me a fanatic), and I am kinda picky when it comes to paint & body, but you almost have to be if you want to be any good at it. I wouldn't say perfectionist though, lol.

Too bad you have to fix a few things Wynne, it's slowing you down for sure, I sure hope you get it all put together in time. It is looking great with all the interior back in it. I was shocked the bucket seat brace went in so quickly working from the bottom. Hopefully it will go well bolting it all back together, I think once the paint is done it will go quickly. I have a couple of places on mine to fix come spring time, Kevin and I talked about it and unless they get way worse I'm going to let them run their course over the winter and hopefully nothing else will crop up. Mine are very minor but I want to fix it none the less.

I have to agree with Keith,,,,,,you is one!!lol

Yeah most of the stuff in the bed is minor on mine too Mike, but you can find it if you look, so I'm sure it will get worse. I'll fix it when it does, lol. I should get my painting done this weekend, and my exhaust parts should come in, so next week I should make some good progress if all goes well.
