My 51 build

Postby ToddWalden on Sat Jun 20, 2009 8:15 pm

OK I have had my 51 for about 12 years, workin on it as time and money allowed. Had to start over one time after it sat at inlaws for 2 years while we went through house selling & buying. (for some reason realtor didn't think leaving project in garage was helpful in selling house....IDIOT!!!!!) Anyway got about everything mocked up and pieces bought, made or stolen so set goal to crank the beast by my 40th b-day on June 25,2009. Time is running out....seemed so easy 3 months ago when goal first set. Scott came over today to help work thru frame painting problems. Got some pics and will try to keep up with progress. will try pics next time... can't get em to load

:2thumbs VERY COOL. Love the pro street back half!

Looks like you have a 2nd gen camaro subframe up front. How is it with the fenders on? Its not to wide? I have Trans Am subframe I was going to use on a 49 project later down the road but was thinking about doing a S10 chassis swap to have better clearance since its narrower.

It is a 81 camaro that I narrowed 2 inches. Everything tucks in really nice. Old camaro guy gave me a good deal on clip and found magazine article telling you how to narrow it. Wasn't that hard other than a lot of that measuring twice cut once stuff. (I'm more of a sledgehammer and prybar guy)ImageImage

Looking sweet Todd! Thanks for putting up the pics, I can see now what you were telling me at the show on how you narrowed it. Those headers clear nicely.

Love the column and banjo steering wheel! :2thumbs

Hit a snag yesterday! The power steering brackets I thought fit my engine didn't. Now I have to try to find set to fit bbc with long water pump.

That looks good Todd. If I were at home I could hook you up w/ stock BB long water pump brackets. I'm 3 1/2 weeks away though.
