This week I got the fuel tub mounted. I used some seam sealer to level out spots in the bed so it will sit level and seal tight. I bolted it in loosely, then tacked it to the bed side and wheel tub in a few places. Once things cooled, I snugged down the bolts holding it to the bed floor and then sealed all the seams along the bed and wheel tub. I figure this would make it solid, but still allow me to remove it if that situation would ever come up. (I hope not.).

Tghe seam sealer is something I got from eastwood and supposedly works well with the flexible urethane paints of today. So far on the rest of the truck (all the cab and firewall seals) I am pleased with it and seems to be holding up real well.

Here is a couple. The ones I shot today with the tub on all came out black. I'll try and get some next week with the filler tube and all attached. I am using an original 72 blazer tank, which has the longer filler neck than the aftermarket tanks do. I think If I ever did another or replaced this one I'll get Mark (FuelCellGuy) to make one with the neck where I don't have to cut the cross brace and maybe just have it come out of the bed floor.

Between weld cooling on the fuel tub, I also patched my passenger inner fender. No money now to buy a nice one, but this should do and not many will see it anyways.

Cleaned the inner fender up and painted the underside with spray in bed line (like I did on the driver's side a few years ago). I then painted the showing part a nice shiny black. Now it almost matches the driver's side. I figure a few weeks/months in the shop and it will be a perfect dusty black match with the one driver's side. I'll drill the mounting holes whenever it comes time to bolt it in.

Last bit of work (between all the other things), was sanding out the driver's front fender area. I forgot how long ago it was since I applied this coat (maybe 8months). Anyways, bunch of sanding and shaping. I am almost satisfied. I think one more skim coat, then I can shoot the have this ready for shooting primer and blocking the thing out.

There's no soccer next week, so I should have a good bit of time on it. Just me, my truck, and sanders. :2thumbs

Eric, I really like the side door on mine way better than the behind the side marker like I started to do. I think with your tank you may be able to shift the door opening back some so you dont have to come up through the wheel tub. I think that might be the only thing I would do different next time. Then have a Tank made to push the nozzle right where I want it.

Got some progress done today, but not like I wanted. Seemed like things went backwards more than forwards.

Lots of sanding and blocking on the truck. I worked on the fuel tube, but forgot to thin out and smooth over the seam sealer when I put it down, so lots of sanding and I still need to run another bead (thinned out of course) so it will fill in the void smoother. I put some fiberglass hair on it foras a filler, to smooth out the cut and weld areas. More sanding, a little filler, more sanding, then a quick coat of primer to see how she looks. I am pretty happy with it but I definitely need to run a second seam sealer run (thinned out) and smooth out the seams. Other than that.

Went ahead and cleaned up the fuel door, sealed it with primer, then painted the inside with the color. I'll leave the outside in primr until I do the entire bed. in paint. The door should sit a little more flush once I have the rubber bumper stops in place.

Prior to hooking up all the fuel filler tube, I went in and cleaner up the inside area. As I expected it would, the bed liner burned off where I tack welded the piece to the bed. So I cleaned all that up and as you saw from the previous post, bolted in the fuel neck. Once it is all done, I will trim a thick rubber mat and scew it to the hole to try and keep road grime out of the area.
