Picked up a new toy today

Postby gsfmech on Fri Oct 16, 2009 9:56 pm

OK this isn't truck related but I bet a few of you guys are into guns. I've wanted a 1911 government model Colt for a long time and I know they sell a lot of new fangled stuff thats supposed to be better than the Colt but the way I look at it everything else is just a copy. You can take an old Colt, roll it around in the mud and it will still shoot. Anyway for my 30 year service award the way they are doing it now days is they give you X amount of dollars, you buy what you want, put it on an expense report and they pay you back. Well I have searched high and low and couldn't find one anywhere. An old oilfield buddy of mine that has a custom gun shop had one that belonged to a customer at his shop. It came from the Colt custom gun shop and was brand new in the box and the guy wanted to sell it. It's a Govt. model series 70 .45 with miniature sights and an adjustable trigger. It has never been fired (My wife and I fixed that today, she liked it too). The original grips were in the box and had Pachmayers installed. Probably sold for about 1500 but I picked it up for a grand. With all the extras I felt like it was a good deal. I need to take some pics and post them, I'm loving this thing.

THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Just kidding Mike, lol, that sounds like a pretty cool gun, especially since it has some history. Speaking of guns, I plan to take Tucker out and let him shoot his first gun tomorrow,(other than a BB gun) then maybe shoot at some squirrels sunday.

Congrats Mike!

My dad has my grand-father's service 1911 from WWII. I'd really like to get that gun and freshen it up some, it's been stored in a closet for quite a while now.
