Thanks for the ideas Steven, the plugs and wires were replaced last year. All the plugs are gapped correctly and the wires are a good set of Taylor wires. I do carry an extra module because the first time it happened that`s what was replaced first. It may be one of the connecters, I will have to pull the dist. and verify that I have good connections everywhere. Most of the time when it won`t crank it has been sitting overnite or for at least a few hours so I don`t think overheating is a problem. It has to be something simple that I am overlooking. I may just have to put a new instead of rebuilt dist. in the truck and be done with it. (hopefully) I just hate admitting defeat, so I will probably battle it for a while longer before I throw in the towel.

EDIT: Didn`t know the first post went through, guess I`m too impatient.

Thanks for the ideas Steven. I think I may have to pull the dist. and check all the connections real good. At this point it seems that either there is a short in the dist. wires or I need to replace the cap. I have an extra module because that is what I replaced first a few years back when this started happening. Have swapped them out and they both work. I don`t think the module is overheating because it usually happens after the truck sits overnite or for a couple of hours. On Sept. 4th the truck had set for about 45 minutes. I replaced the plugs and wires last year. I may just have to buy a new dist., but I`ve been messing with this for so long I hate to admit defeat just yet. Although the truck is my daily driver, it usually is only driven about 3 miles per day and sometimes none during the weekend. I don`t know if this would contribute to my problem or not. Anyway, I`ll keep you guys posted.

Ok, this thing is getting ridiculous. Went to leave for work this morning (5am) and the truck would not start. Just took the wifes car and let it sit. Got home this evening (5pm) and it fired right up. Have not had time to check the connections or put a new cap and rotor on yet. It just seems strange that it cranks up sometimes and not sometimes. It always has 12v to the power wire, so it has to be in dist. somewhere. Oh well, if you have any ideas let me know. If not, maybe I will eventually track down the problem. I know the easiest thing would be to buy a new dist., buy someone sprayed ROUNDUP on my money tree and funds are kind of low right now.

Throw a spark plug in the glove box and next time it won't start, pull a plug wire, plug it up the the spare spark plug, lay it on a good ground and check the fire just to be sure. That's where I would start anyway, lol.

Don't know if you've got the problem fixed yet but I just bought one of these. Several folks on the 67-72 board have been running them.

WOW, did I read that right, $42.00 for the whole distributor! What does everyone say about the quality and how it works? That is a smoking deal if its a good distributor.

Thanks for passing that along. I just purchased one, so maybe that will solve my problems. Couldn`t pass that deal up @ $50 for complete dist., I just paid half that about 3 weeks ago for just a cap and rotor. Let ya`ll know when I put it on the truck.

Fed-Ex dropped the dist off late this evening, will hopefully install in truck tomorrow between turkey feedings. It looks really nice and should solve all my problems.

Dist has been in since Thanksgiving, and so far everything is working good. Hopefully this is the end of my problems.

Good, glad it worked out for you Scott! I know how irritating electrical problems can be sometimes.
